Nearly half the world cooks over an open fire, contributing to a range of health, environmental, and safety problems including smoke inhalation, forest clearing, and violence against women during firewood collection. Cleaner cooking solutions aim to reduce emissions, decrease fuel needs by increasing efficiency, and improve safety and durability measures. From July 2015 through December 2016, I served as the technical editor for ISO TC 285 Clean cookstoves and clean cooking solutions, helping to bring both lab and field testing protocols to the Committee Draft stage.
